HOLLAND — For this week's feature, I joined a group of campers from the Hoosier Burn Camp based in West Lafayette, Indiana, for a day of adventure out on Lake Michigan.

On the water, campers had the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of sailing, including how to tie basic knots, read the telltales, and adjust course based on wind.

Hoosier Burn Camp serves children and teens who've experienced burn injuries, offering year-round support and experiences that help build confidence, a sense of community and lifelong friendships. The sailing trip on Lake Michigan was part of a Teen Trip, designed to create new experiences for campers outside their local area.

As the day wrapped up, sailors switched course toward Lake Macatawa. Campers, sailors and support staff enjoyed pizza and a pool party to finish the night.
