TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Numerous non-profits in the Terre Haute area received help today from a local firefighters union.

The Terre Haute Firefighters Local 758 hosted a state convention earlier this year for the Professional Firefighters Union of Indiana.

Through that event, along with other festivities held for the community, the union raised over $10,000 dollars. On Wednesday, it gave that money back to the community by donating it to a wide variety of local charities.

“Local 758, we’re a non-profit organization first of all and we have union dues that kind of take care of our monthly or day-to-day operations so this was just kind of extra money that came in that we couldn’t necessarily keep ourselves but we could give out and help out everybody else,” said Bob Malone, Local 758 Union President.

Recipients of the grant were the following organizations and projects:

  • Protect the Precious Program

  • All Seasons Giving Fund

  • Terre Haute Humane Society

  • Saint Pat Soup Kitchen

  • The CODA Emergency Shelter

  • REACH Services

  • Hoosier Burn Camp

  • 14th and Chestnut Community Center

  • Team of Mercy

  • Chances and Services for Youth
